In our fast-paced world, taking time for ourselves is crucial. Regular self-healing in Reiki helps recharge and maintain our wellbeing, making us more effective as healers and in our daily lives.
You may think you don’t have enough time. While you may not be able to do an hour treatment, even 15 minutes helps set up the day. Remember, self-care is not selfish; it is essential for each of us to function at our best.
Understanding Self-Healing as meditation
Reiki self-healing means channelling Reiki energy into yourself, focusing on your own physical, emotional, and spiritual needs and challenges. It promotes self-awareness and holistic wellness.
It is a powerful form of meditation. Mikao Usui, the father of Reiki, discovered Reiki as a byproduct of seeking enlightenment through meditation. Frans Steine in his book The inner heart of Reiki, claims that all the practices in the system of Reiki, including self-healing, can be used for meditation.
Certainly when I do hands on healing for myself or others I go into a deeply relaxed, and peaceful state.
The ultimate aim of meditation is to live life in a constant state of awareness. There’s been a great deal of scientific research into the benefits of regular meditation. These include stress reduction, improved focus and concentration, better sleep, and enhanced emotional regulation, which is the ability to control your own emotional state. All these are also benefits of regular Reiki self-healing.
Benefits of Regular Reiki Self-Healing
Emotional healing with Reiki – Regular self-healing can reduce stress and anxiety, fostering calmness and emotional resilience. It allows us to process our feelings and release emotional blockages that may hinder our growth.
As I’ve recounted to many of our students over the years, regular self-healing helped me heal and release much of the anger I’d carried since childhood. As part of that I learnt to be more assertive, and more patient but Reiki was an essential factor behind the changes I made.
Reiki for physical health - Self-healing can also boost our immune system, promote relaxation, and alleviate pain. I do self-healing almost every day and I haven’t had flu for example since before I learnt Reiki.
Spiritual growth through Reiki - Self-healing deepens our connection to both ourselves and the universal energy that surrounds us. It facilitates personal insight and awareness, allowing us to explore our spiritual journey with greater clarity and intention.
On my own healing journey it helped heal the religious trauma I had from having other people’s dogmatic views forced on me as a child. I have a much happier relationship with Source, the Angels and Ascended Masters than I ever did before Reiki. It has opened so many doors for me and deeply enriched my life.
Learning Reiki – Most Reiki courses are completed in two or three days. While you can learn the principles of Reiki healing in a few days it takes regular practice to master it. We don’t always have other people to heal and practise on, but we can always do self-healing.
It’s how I mastered the different symbols and techniques in Usui, Holy Fire, Karuna and Angelic Reiki. When you are healing others you can’t look up the manual to check what you are doing. But you can with self-healing.
Daily Reiki Self-Healing
Incorporating self-healing into your daily routine has many benefits as the healing builds up over time. The more you use it, the deeper it goes. It can stimulate your body’s natural healing ability to strengthen your immune system, enhance your cognitive functioning, improve your sleep and so much more.
Find your happy time and place and make it a habit. I do my self-healing in bed, often before I get up, sometimes before I go to sleep.
Set a clear intention before beginning your session – for example after I learnt Usui Reiki 2 I regularly used Reiki to heal and release my anger. A more general intention would be to improve your overall wellbeing.
Don’t just treat the symptom area, for example the back pain. Often the area where the symptom appears is not where the underlying cause is. I’ve done quite a lot of pain relief work using Reiki, Hypnosis and Tapping, and it’s amazing how often physical pain has an emotional cause for example.
Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the West said, “Anytime that a condition is present for three weeks or longer, the condition becomes chronic. By then, the whole body is involved in the healing process. You must treat the entire body. Giving Reiki only to the symptom area won’t work.”
Old chronic problems may improve with consistent use of Reiki including hypertension, allergies, and other chronic illnesses. Obviously conditions present for years are unlikely to disappear overnight.
Please remember Reiki is not a substitute for receiving medical treatment when you need it. Please don’t discontinue using your medication without consulting of your doctor. I’ve known several people who have stopped taking their medication end up with major physical or mental health problems.
